In 2019, HEFFCORP delivered the most ambitious programme of Hospital Radio Medway’s 50 year history. Live with the CEO was not just a radio show, but a tool for the station to build bridges with the rest of the hospital, and engage the local community like never before.

In the two hour show, replacing the daily request programme, Chief Executive of Medway Maritime Hospital James Devine took center stage for a live two hour Q&A in front of a live audience.

The resource for this project was significant, utilising skills and talent across the station up to and during the broadcast. A team of 13 volunteers supported the live show, with an audience including local MPs.

HEFFCORP provided full producer services from concept and branding through to live broadcast.

The show was a huge technical achievement for HRM, who previously had no means of broadcasting live OBs. Their engineer worked closely with HEFFCORP’s producer to create a cost-effective online streaming solution. As well as purchasing some essential additional equipment, the station now has the means and the experience to produce live outside broadcasts.

The time and effort paid off, with unprecedented levels of interaction from the live audience to social media; they even crashed the stream!

2019 Nominee: Best Programme with Multiple Presenters

The Film Show is an award-nominated factual entertainment programme broadcasting weekly on Hospital Radio Medway, playing top 40 songs from film & TV.

The show began life as a pre-record when, in the summer of 2018, it underwent a major rebrand. Featuring a new jingle package with voiceover work from the inimitable Peter Dickson (The X Factor), the show went live for the first time and never looked back.

At the helm are married couple Liam & Beth, who bring a unique mix of expertise and entertainment to a format packed with reviews, great music and A-list content.

The branding accentuates an epic Hollywood style, with a 16-35 target listener in mind. The Film Show fills a gap in the hospital radio schedule, which typically addresses older audiences, and creates much needed content for an underserved demographic in the sector.

The Film Show has always challenged the limitations of hospital radio, giving its listeners something a bit different with the ethos that you don’t need a Hollywood budget to produce a blockbuster broadcast.

In March 2019, this ambition was put to the ultimate test, when it produced the UK’s biggest, free Academy Awards coverage. Featuring Oscar nominated studio guests and unique access from inside the official London Academy party, the show set the bar with the ultimate companion coverage to rival any commercial broadcaster.
